Psychometric Assessments in Johannesburg

Registered psychometrists and psychologists measure cognitive ability, personality and learning potential, so you can select, place and develop people with confidence.

What psychometric assessments tell you

Psychometric assessments give you objective, comparable information about people: how they reason, how they tend to behave at work, and how quickly they are likely to learn. Used well, they make selection, placement and development decisions fairer and easier to defend than interviews alone.

Fair, valid and legally defensible

Section 8 of the Employment Equity Act prohibits psychological testing and similar assessments unless the test is scientifically shown to be valid and reliable, can be applied fairly to all employees, is not biased against any employee or group, and is certified by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) or another body authorised by law.

That standard shapes how we work. Assessments are administered by registered psychometrists and psychologists in line with HPCSA guidelines, and we select tools for the purpose and the people being assessed, not the other way around. Personal information is handled under POPIA. For a plain-English summary, read our guide to psychometric testing and the Employment Equity Act.

Choosing the right battery

There is no single correct set of tests. The right battery depends on why you are assessing and which competencies the role or programme actually requires. A graduate programme intake, a senior leadership appointment and a bursary selection each call for different tools, and we also offer work-based simulations and role-plays where a test alone will not show how someone performs.

To recommend a battery, it helps if you can tell us:

  • The role, programme or purpose
  • The competencies that matter most
  • How many people will be assessed
  • Your timelines
  • What reporting you need: individual reports, group summaries or feedback sessions
  • Any existing job profile you already use

Do you need a job profile first? We also provide job profiling and HR consulting.

Frequently asked questions

What is a psychometric assessment?

A structured, standardised measure of a psychological characteristic such as cognitive ability, personality or learning potential. Results are compared against norms so decisions rest on evidence rather than impressions.

Who is allowed to administer psychometric tests in South Africa?

Psychological tests must be administered and interpreted by appropriately registered professionals, such as registered psychometrists and psychologists. Our assessments are administered by registered psychometrists and psychologists.

Can psychometric tests be used for hiring decisions?

Yes, as one input alongside interviews, references and experience. Under Section 8 of the Employment Equity Act the tests used must be valid, reliable, fair and certified, which is why battery selection matters.

What do you use assessments for besides recruitment?

Leadership and talent development, succession planning, bursary and learnership selection, graduate programmes and career guidance.

How much does an assessment cost?

It depends on the battery, the number of candidates and the level of reporting. Tell us what you need and we will provide a quote.

How long does it take?

Duration depends on the battery chosen and how many people are assessed. We agree timelines when we scope the project.
